3 policemen hurt in clash with drug traders

Three members of police have been injured in a chase and counter chase with drug peddlers in Kalyanpur area of Sylhet on Saturday evening.

Shahporan police station Officer-in-Charge Shakhawat Hossain said police detained four drug traders from the spot.

The detainees are Rafiq Ahmed, his associates Roni, Emon and Shahjahan.

Police said the law enforcers raided a shop owned by Rafiq Ahmed around 6pm and detained the four.

Meanwhile, Rafiq's associates announced through the mike that a group of robbers entered in the area. They also called all to obstruct them.

At one stage, the members of police locked in a chase and counter chase with the supporters of Rafiq when they came forward to snatch the detainees. OC Shakhawat Hossain, SI Hasnat and ASI Shafi were injured in the incident.

“We have complaints against the detainees of drug trading, extortion, land occupy, hijacking and robbery,” said the OC.
