The authority of MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital has decided to reopen the institute on Sunday, 10 days after its closure following the death of a student and also a JCD leader.
Principal of Osmani Medical College Prof Dr Morshed Ahmad Chowdhury told the Dhaka Tribune that the decision was taken at the academic council meeting.
“The deadline for submitting the probe report in the Tauhid murder case was also extended for seven days,” he added.
A five-member probe body, headed by Professor Dr AKM Mosharraf Hossain of the surgery department of the college, was formed to investigate the killing of Tauhidul Islam.
Anwar Hossain Matabbar, uncle of slain Tauhid filed a case with Kotwali police station, Sylhet Metropolitan Police. Some 10 members of the ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been mentioned in the case.
Tauhidul Islam, a fourth year student of MBBS 49th batch and also a JDC leader, was beaten to death by unidentified miscreants on June 4.
Later, Tauhidul succumbed to his injuries around 8pm, Dr Abdus Salam, assistant director of the hospital, endorsed the information in a press meet.
