The Liberation War Affairs Ministry has said it is yet to take any decision on giving new crests to foreign friends, who supported the birth of Bangladesh.
The ministry in its reply to a legal notice of a Supreme Court (SC) lawyer said it did not have any authority to take such decisions.
The new reply signed by Assistant Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam was issued on June 11, but was received by the SC lawyer, Manzill Murshid yesterday.
On May 14, Manzill Murshid served a legal notice to the ministry demanding that the 338 foreign friends be awarded with new crests.
Not getting the reply in due time, the lawyer filed a writ petition.
The earlier reply said the alleged scam centring the gold crests was under the investigation of a parliamentary sub-committee. After getting probe report, necessary steps would be taken, added the reply.
On Monday, an HC bench comprised of Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Khurshid Alam Sarkar said they would not interfere in it as the government had taken the matter seriously and has already launched probe.
