The tender of the main construction work of the metro rail project would be floated by December.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader made the disclouser while inaugurating the piling work of metro rail depo at Uttara third phase area on Wednesday.
He said: “After completing all procedures the work order will be given by April, 2015.”
The main construction work of the project would be completed by 2019 and it would be opened for operation in the same year, he added.
The line 6 of the 20.1km length metro rail will be established throughout Uttara third phase to Bangladesh Bank by Pallabi, Rokeya Sharani, Khamarbari, Farmgate, Hotel Sonargaon, Shahbagh, TSC, Doyel Chattar and Topkhana road.
He further said the activities of environment friendly metro rail project began officially by the inauguration of the depo construction work.
“The government wants to implement the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development Project fast. It will eliminate the public sufferings in the city regarding transport crisis.”
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company, a state owned local company, will implement the project of Tk22,000 crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Tk16,600 crore for the project. Rests of the funds will be provided by the government of Bangladesh.
Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority will oversee the implementation work of the project as executive authority.
