Two workers have been killed as a crane fell down on them at Harbaria of the Pashur river channel under Mongla upazila of the district Wednesday morning.
The deceased were foreman Abdul Matin, 36, and tally clerk Zakir Hossain, 32, hailed from Mongla poura area, reports BSS.
The iron rope of the crane along with goods suddenly fell down on the workers while they were unloading goods from a foreign flag carrying ship, MV Hanjin in the channel at about 8am, Mongla port chairman Commodore HR Bhuiyan said.
Zakir died on the spot and Matin sustained injuries, he said.
Critically injured Matin died on the way to Mongla Upazila Health Complex, he added.
