Update : 10 Jun 2014, 10:16 PM

In a mysterious incident, three children, including two siblings, fell sick in the capital’s Bonosharee area yesterday night after allegedly drinking water of a green coconut purchased from a roadside stall.

The victims are Mahid Hasan, 9, his younger brother Nahid Hasan, 7 and their domestic help Ratna, 13. All of them were whisked off to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital in a critical state.

The children’s father Alamgir Hossain, an employee of a private firm, said he had purchased two young coconuts from a roadside stall near Rampura Bridge around 7:30pm while he was on way to home from office.

“My children and the housemaid started vomiting immediately after having the water of one of the coconuts around 9pm and quick got admitted them to the DMCH”, Alamgir also stated.

He opined that the green coconut vendor might be a member of a dupe gang, vastly known as aggyan party in Bengali, to drug people to loot belongings. “They might have injected something inside the coconuts”, he continued, adding that he would inform it to police.

Meanwhile, the children’s stomachs washed off and the duty doctors said condition of the patients could have been worsened unless they were took the hospital in time.
