China to build tunnel beneath Karnaphuli

China will construct a tunnel under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong, the south-east part of the country.

3 of a family killed in Sylhet stadium collapse

Three members of a family have been killed as a wall of Sylhet divisional stadium collapsed due to heavy downpour early Tuesday.

The deceased are Jahed, son of tea cultivator Azan Ali, Azan's daughter Nasima Akter and nephew Ruhul. Read more.

Bangladeshi dies in UAE dockyard accident

A Bangladeshi national has been killed in an accident at Khalid Port dockyard of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

Six killed in lightning strikes

At least six people, including a mother and her son, were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in different areas of Shibganj, Sadar and Gomostapur upazilas of Chapainawabganj on Monday night.

Sibganj police station Officer-in-Charge Ashiqur Rahman said thunderbolt hit Shirin around 8pm while she along with her son Sayeed was collecting mangoes during the nor’wester, leaving both of them dead on the spot. Read more.

A gun fight has erupted adjacent to a Karachi air terminal one day after militants attacked Pakistan's biggest and busiest airport, reports say.

Five Bangladeshi migrant workers have been repatriated from Iran where they were rescued by Iranian police from the clutches of traffickers.

80 gold bars seized, 2 held

Detective Branch (DB) of Police personnel have recovered 80 pieces of smuggled gold bars weighing around 9 kilograms, at the capital’s Purana Paltan area early hours of Tuesday.

Police also arrested two alleged smugglers in this connection. The detainees are Md Shamsuddin, 50, and Kamrul Islam, 48. Read more.

Baul Abdul Karim Shah dies

Ekushey Padak winner Baul Abdul Karim Shah has died at his Kushtia residence on Tuesday morning. He was 90.

Abdul Karim Shah was suffering from Asthma. He was admitted to Kushtia Medical College Hospital on April 24 after he had fallen sick. Read more.

HC accepts Pintu's appeal for hearing

The High Court has accepted appeal for a hearing filed by life sentenced convict BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu challenging his conviction in the BDR carnage case.

Village head among 2 kidnapped
