The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) have arrested a person with three gold bars and a chain weighing a total of 848 grams at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Tuesday morning.
The arrestee is Saiful Islam, 41.
Assistant Superintendent of APBn Alamgir Hossain Shimul said they arrested Saiful with three gold bars and a gold chain immediately after his arrival at Dhaka from Malaysia on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines in the morning.
“The APBn personnel searched his body while he was coming out of the airport through the canopy area and found the gold items inside his underwear around 8:30am,” he said.
The official said Saiful was handed over to the Customs Department with the seized gold worth around Tk38 lakh.
Earlier in the day, Personnel of Detective Branch (DB) of Police recovered 80 pieces of smuggled gold bars weighing around 9 kilograms, at the capital’s Purana Paltan area.
Police also arrested two alleged smugglers in this connection. The detainees are Md Shamsuddin, 50, and Kamrul Islam, 48.
