Three members of a family have been killed as a wall of Sylhet divisional stadium collapsed due to heavy downpour early Tuesday.
The deceased are Jahed, son of tea cultivator Azan Ali, Azan's daughter Nasima Akter and nephew Ruhul.
Airport police station Officer-in-Charge Shah Zaman said: “The incident took place at Chaptal workers' colony of Lukkatura tea garden when the wall of the stadium collapsed due to heavy rain around 2am.”
“The colony is on the eastern side of the stadium. The bodies have been sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy,” he said.
Anonto Biswas, an official of Sylhet Meteorological office, told the Dhaka Tribune: “A 131.8 millimetre rain has been recorded from 12am till 6am on Tuesday.”
Azan said they were sleeping in the house, which is beside the eastern side wall of the stadium, when incident took place.
He said some of the family members along with Azan managed to come out from under the debris but the three people were trapped inside it.
Tea cultivator Kutub Uddin's son Ruhul had come to visit his paternal uncle's hopuse from Srimangal, he added.
Sylhet fire brigade office's Assistant Director Shahidur Rahman confirmed the death of three people in the incident.
