Speakers at a seminar laid emphasis on developing environment-friendly production and trading system for accreditation of products, which is vital in competing in the global market.
Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB) and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) jointly organised the seminar on “Accreditation: Delivering confidence in the provision of energy” to mark the World Accreditation Day 2014 yesterday.
Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu spoke on the occasion as chief guest.
He urged the consumers to use accredited electrical equipment and appliance to avoid accidents and use energy efficiently.
Accreditation is one type of recognition that determines the technical competence and integrity of different organisations that offer conformity assessment of service such as testing, certification, inspection and calibration.
“Present government is committed to generate renewable energy or find alternative energy sources in order to ensure environment-friendly green industrialisation,” the minister said.
To observe the day this year, the accreditation board placed special focus on the green energy use in the production system.
“Sources of energy in the country are limited but the demand for energy is increasing day by day to ensure supply of the energy. Quality of power is much needed, which can be met by accreditation,” said DCCI President Mohammad Shahjahan Khan.
Developing and least developed countries are concentrating on accreditation for the expansion of trade and commerce as the global buyers are demanding accreditation of companies so that they can be sure about the quality of products, he said.
“We should ensure quality and safe energy generation system,” DCCI president said.
Secretary of Ministry of Industries Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah said the accreditation is a must to compete in the global market especially in this open market economy.
“We should enhance efficiency in energy management system to reduce the misuse of energy,” he added.
Prof Zahid Hasan Mahmood of Dhaka University’s Electronic and Communication Engineering Department presented keynote paper in the seminar.
He said accreditation can help business organisations select the best quality products and services “because it ensures quality and safety of products and services to the consumers.”
