Touhidul Islam, a MBBS student and also Chhatra Dal leader of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, was murdered as he failed to pay Tk 150,000 that the Chhatra League men demanded from him.
Osmani Medical College Chhatra League President Soumen has said during giving his confessional deposition before the court of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Shahedul Karim under section 164 on Sunday.
The investigation officer Sirajul Islam has told this to the Dhaka Tribune.
“According to Soumen’s confessional statement, Touhid was murdered for extortion money.”
He quoted Soumen as saying in the confessional statement: “Touhid paid TK50,000 but he was delaying to pay the rest Tk150,000. That is why; he was beaten to death at the Room No. 1003 in the Abu Sina Hall of the medical college.”
Quoting Soumen, Kotwali police OC Ataur Rahman Babul as saying: “We demanded Tk 200,000 from Touhid as extortion; he paid Tk 50,000 but he did not paying the rest of the money. Later, he was beaten severely and he was sent to the medical college hospital as he got severely injured.”
In his confessional statement, Soumen also mentioned at least 15 names of the accomplices who were involved in the killing. They include OMCH unit BCL Secretary Saiful Hai, its Organizing Secretary Moshfekuzzaman Akanda Rafi, Hafizur Rahman, Farhan Anjum Pathan, Antar Dwip, Shariful Islam, Jahur Raihan Ripon, Abu Sahal Fahim, Jubayer Ibne Khayez.
