A night guard of Agrani Bank Ltd's Habiganj upazila branch has allegedly committed suicide in Chandpur early Sunday.
The deceased is Monirul Islam, 26, son of Mojibur Rahman hailed from Moddhosonna village under Patuakhali sadar upazila.
Bank official Borhan Uddin said: “Cleaner Manjuma Khatun informed that Monirul was not opening the gate in the morning. I entered inside the bank breaking the lock and saw his hanging body.”
Agrani Bank Manager Md Lokman Hajra said: “ We found a letter in Monirul's pocket which stated that poverty is the reason behind his suicide.”
Habiganj police station Officer-in-Charge Md Shah Alam said: “On information from Borhan Uddin, police went to the spot and recovered his body in the morning.”
The body was sent to Chandpur Sadar morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
Monirul joined as an Ansar member in the bank's Habiganj branch on November 1, last year, Bank sources said.
