Students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have confined the vice chancellor at his office for two hours, demanding the cancellation of the introduction of dependent quota system at the university.
The students went to SUST VC Professor Dr Aminul Haque Bhuiyan's office and put the main gate of the office under lock and key at about 10am.
Later, they unlocked the gate around 12pm following assurance that the issue will be raised in the meeting of the authority, said the university Proctor Himadri Shekhar Roy.
The students of the university have been demanding the cancellation of dependent quota for admission into the varsity.
On May 12, the university approved dependent quota at its 184th syndicate meeting.
As per the syndicate decision, the dependents of the university staffs can get opportunities of admission into the institution if they have 40% marks in compilation with the secondary and higher secondary examinations' results and written marks of the admission test.
