The teachers, doctors and employees at University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC) yesterday called upon the government to save the university immediately from the irregularities and corruption of its trustee board.
The employees halted all the academic activities and administrative work of USTC yesterday who have been observing work abstention for four hours since May 18 demanding implementation of service rules.
Assistant professor Dr Kamal Uddin, joint secretary of Teachers-Doctors and Officials-Employees Coordination Parishad of USTC read out the written speech at the press conference held at the Chittagong Press Club where the representatives of students teachers and staff were also present.
Violating the Private University Act 2010, the trustee board appointed the vice-chancellor (vc), the pro-vc and the treasurer without the President’s acknowledgement and the syndicate of USTC currently has ten members instead of 12 members as per provision, Kamal said.
“Although service rules of the university were made in 1998, USTC is yet to execute them in the past ten years,” Kamal added.
They would continue their programs till their demands were met, said the employees.
The demonstrators said University Grant Commission (UGC), Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Directorate of Environment blacklisted the university due to the alleged irregularities of Janasheba Foundation.
Besides, the authority had allowed the admission of the first year students who failed their medical entrance exam for the MBBS course in batch 27 illegally.
