The Election Commission has decided not to deploy army personnel during the upcoming Barisal 5 by-elections, slated to be held on June 12.
The EC asked intelligence agencies to increase vigilance on the constituency so that anarchy cannot be created centring the by-polls.
The decision came from a meeting held in the EC secretariat yesterday between its commissioners and the different law enforcement agencies.
A senior assistant secretary of EC told the Dhaka Tribune that police, members of BGB, RAB and Ansar would work in the polls as mobile and striking forces.
