Former Sri Lankan cricketer Chandika Hathurusinghe, who is now a domestic cricket coach in Australia, has been appointed as the new coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Team.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan has made the official announcement at a press conference on Monday afternoon.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder Hathurusingha will begin work from July 1, Nazmul said.
The two-year agreement has been finalised with Chandika Hathurusingha, he added.
The former assistant coach of Sri Lanka has been released from his duties as head coach of Sydney Thunder, for what the club said was to join Bangladesh Cricket Team, says a press release of the Sydney Thunder issued on Monday.
Thunder General Manager Nick Cummins praised Hathurusinghe's work with the team. “It is a great opportunity for him and a great recognition of his skills and personal qualities.”
Earlier, Shane Jurgensen resigned from his position as the head coach for the Tigers after poor team performance in the Asian Cup and Twenty20 World Cup in Dhaka.
In his resignation letter to the BCB, Jurgensen said he was irked by comments in the media by some directors of the board who preferred for a batting-oriented coach.
