Former Commanding Officer of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 11 Tareq Sayeed and two other officers - Major Arif and Lt Commander Rana - have been sent to forced retirement following allegations of their involvment in the abductions and killings of seven people in Narayanganj.
The decision came following order from the high ups of the government, highly placed government sources confirmed to the Dhaka Tribune about the matter.
Allegations were raised against the three RAB officials for their involvement in the abductions and murders of seven in Narayanganj, including City Corporation Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam.
Narayanganj panel mayor and ward councillor Nazrul Islam, his four aides, senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were abducted on April 27. Six bodies, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were found floating in the Shitalakhya River three days later; another body was found the following day.
On Monday, Army Chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban, sources said.
RAB CEO Tareq Sayeed is the son-in-law of the disaster management minister also Dhaka City Unit Awami League Secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya.
On April 29, RAB CEO Tareq was removed from RAB 11.
Nazrul’s father-in-law alleged that the RAB abducted and killed Nazrul and six others in exchange of Tk 6crore.
