Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta has bitterly criticised law enforcers’ role in dealing with the abduction and murder of seven people, including Narayanganj City Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam.
“Why did they run a raid at the (suspected) offender’s house after seven days? Why didn’t they do it before,” he asked at a discussion in Dhaka city, yesterday.
“Allegations have surfaced against the security forces. Anybody involved in the incident must be identified and given departmental punishment within a short time,” he said.
Venting anger over the Ministry of Home Affairs’ initiatives following the abduction and murder, he said, “An important ministry like that of home affairs cannot be run by proxy.”
“That is why, a politically experienced person needs to be appointed here,” he said.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has kept the home ministry under her charge rather than appointing any full minister to it since she formed her first ever second straight government on Jan 12.
Hasina, however, appointed Asaduzzaman Khan as state minister for home.
Narayanganj’s Shiddhirganj Awami League Vice President Nur Hossain has been implicated as primary accused in the case of abduction and murder of seven people there.
“He is not a man of the Awami League. He was once Jatiya Party and then with BNP and is now with Awami League. People like him do not have any political party. They always side with the ruling party,” Suranjit said.
