Followers of a local Awami League leader in Bhola’s Char Fashion on Sunday locked the room of a college principal after being failed to become a teacher at the institution forcibly.
The principal, AKM Shahe Alam of Dularhat Model Degree College, filed a general diary with Char Fashion police in the evening.
Police and witnesses said some eight youths, instigated by accused Mostafa Kamal, had stormed the college around 11:30am and locked the principal’s room.
The principal was not present in his room during the incident.
“Mostafa Kamal has long been trying to become a teacher at the college’s English department. We will make a decision after investigating the allegation against him,” OC Abul Bashar of Char Fashion police station told the Dhaka Tribune over phone.
The OC said they would visit the college Monday morning.
Currently, there is no vacancy at the college for a new English teacher.
According to the principal’s family sources, Kamal is affiliated with the ruling party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League. Kamal is working as a teacher at another college, but he wants to get appointed at the college which is nearby his village home.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Rezaul Karim said he did not know accused Kamal. “When the principal came to me in the afternoon, I advised him to take legal action against the persons responsible for the incident,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.
