RMCH interns sued

Update : 22 Apr 2014, 03:21 AM

Two cases have been filed against 150 intern doctors of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital over the attack incident that left 10 journalists injured on Sunday night.

ATN News camera-person Mahfuzur Rahman Rubel and Amar Desh photographer Asaduzzaman Asad filed the cases with Rajpara police station around 12am on Tuesday.

Khan Md Erfan, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station, confirmed the Dhaka Tribune about the cases.

He said eight interns -- Subrata, Shamim, Mizanur, Mithu, Nayan, Obaidur Rahman, Rony, and Palash -- were named in both cases.

None has been yet arrested in connection with the incident.

Some 10 journalists including their camerapersons were injured in an attack by the intern doctors at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday night.

The initial scuffle between interns and a patient’s relatives broke out when an intern named Subrata refused to check on the patient at ward number 13, reportedly because he was busy watching an Indian TV serial.

When journalists from the electronic and print media arrived at the scene to cover the incident, the interns – equipped with hockey sticks and bamboo sticks – attacked the media workers.

The interns also allegedly snatched truncheons from police personnel and beat up the journalists in the presence of law enforcers, smashing their TV cameras.
