BELA chief’s husband, Abu Bakar Siddique, who was abducted by miscreants on Wednesday, gave his deposition before a Narayanganj court yesterday.
Syed Nurul Islam, superintendent of police in Narayanganj, told the Dhaka Tribune: “The district magistrate has recorded his deposition under section 164. However, nothing should be disclosed for the sake of investigation.”
Earlier in the day, Siddique was taken to the court after a medical check-up.
Dr Sheikh Farhad, acting residential medical officer of Narayanganj Hospital, told the Dhaka Tribune: “He [Siddique] received injuries on his arms, legs and nose, as he had been blindfolded and tied up the entire time since the abduction.”
Meanwhile, although any substantial progress was yet to be made in solving the case, Narayanganj SP Nurul said the investigation was still going on, adding that it would continue until the mystery was solved.
He said the police force, along with Siddique, yesterday visited the spot from where the businessman had been abducted, and some evidence was also collected from Siddique’s car.
When asked about the motive behind the abduction, the SP claimed to have some ideas, but refused to reveal details as the investigation was ongoing.
A gang of seven to eight armed criminals abducted Siddique from Fatullah on Wednesday afternoon, and released him in the capital’s Mirpur more than 30 hours after his abduction.
