Deputy commissioners (DC) from across the country have recommended raising the age limit for entering government service to 33 years from the current 30.
At the same time, the public administrators have also suggested reducing the time for voluntary retirement of civil servants to 20 years, from 25 years at present.
The suggestions, sent to the cabinet division, came ahead of this year’s DC conference, scheduled to be held July 8 to 10. They have sent in the suggestions.
Maksudur Rahman, joint secretary of the cabinet division, told the Dhaka Tribune that they had received several suggestions from DCs from across the country.
“Those would be scrutinised before placing at the conference. The suggestions that are unnecessary would be excluded from the final list,” Maksudur said.
A good numberof divisional and deputy commissioners also recommended preparing a code of conduct for public representatives, claiming that the behaviour of many civil servants was uncontrollable due to lack of guidelines.
They also proposed increasing the retirement age of public servants to 59 years from 57,considering the average life expectancy in the country.
They also suggested installing a new wing in DC offices for freedom fighters’ welfare.
Earlier, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain rejected a proposal for extending the entry age, saying, “The government is yet to take any decision in this regard.”
