Travel Mart 2014 begins today

A three-day international tourism fair styled “Eastern Bank Travel Mart 2014” begins today at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

The Bangladesh Monitor, a travel and tourism magazine, is organising the fair, which will remain open for the visitors from 10am to 8pm from today with an entry fee of Tk20.

Being the chief guest, civil aviation and tourism minister Rashed Khan Menon formally inaugurated the fair at a city hotel yesterday.

Travel Mart 2014 has successfully gathered-round different industries within the tourism sectors such as airlines, hotels, resorts, tour operators and travel trade bodies for attracting the visitors, who are interested in finding their preferred travel arrangements and destinations.

Out of the participating 50 organisations, most of them are offering up to 50% discounts on their products and services to allure the visitors.

Among others, the event participants Bangladesh Tourism Board, Flydubai, Novoair and Tourism Malaysia expressed their optimism on the prospect of the fair, especially on doing better business with higher turnout of visitors this year.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the minister expressed his vision on the prospect of tourism sector in line with its contribution to the country’s gross domestic product growth.

In tourism sector, everything adds more value unlike any other industry, as nothing needs to be imported to keep its revenue wheel rolling.  With the increased participation from the private sector, the industry is now set to reach a new high, said FBCCI President Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed while addressing the ceremony as special guest.

The inaugural ceremony was also attended, among others, by the CEO of Bangladesh Toruism Board, Akhteruz Zaman Khan Kabir, General Manager (Marketing) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Abduallah Hasan and Editor of the Bangladesh Monitor Kazi WahidulAlam.
