School boy burned to death in Jamalpur fire

A school boy has been burned to death and four others sustained burn injuries in a fire at Hatbari village under Madarganj upazila in Jamalpur early on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Lanzu, 13, a class III student of Abul Hossain Primary School.

Madarganj police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Aiyub said: “Fire originated from a cattle house and soon engulfed nearby houses.”

“Lanzu was burned to death as he was in the house when the fire broke out,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lanzu’s elder brothers Shorif, 18, and Arif, 15, his younger sister Shorifa, 9, and his paternal aunty Hazera, 45, sustained burn injuries while trying to douse the blaze.

The injured have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Later, fire-fighters went to the spot and doused the blaze.

However, six houses, three cattle along with the cattle house, 50 to 60 domestic animals including ducks, chickens and five goats were burnt in the fire.
