The explosion of an abandoned crude bomb has left injuries to 4 working women while they had been digging soil at the capital’s Tilpapara in Khilgaon on Tuesday.
The identified Selina Begum, 40, Ambia Akhter, 35, Ratna Begum, 30, and Hiron Basi, 45, were first rushed to the nearby Khidma Hospital from where they were shifted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Of the injured, Selina Begum’s condition was stated to be critical as she sustained massive wounds at different parts of her body.
Contractor Abdul Majid, who was also a witness to the incident, said the explosion took place at around 10:30am while the workers had been working for the construction of Road-17 in Khilgaon.
“When Selina was cutting the soil with a spade, a bomb wrapped with red tape exploded with a big bang and left Selina and three other women workers injured,” said Majid.
He said all the injured women were rushed to Khidmah Hospital, however the doctors advised to shift them to the DMCH due to their massive wounds.
Police in Khilgaon said the bomb might have been left abandoned by criminals.
