Acting Proctor of Dhaka University Amzad Ali said, “We have said to the Book Sellers Malik Samity not to open the market until a meeting was held between ourselves. Till today, traders’ leaders did not get suitable chance to meet and solve the issue, but we will sit together soon for a permanent solution soon.” He said the university authorities have urged traders not to open the market in a bid to avoid further clash.

When asked about filing any case over the clash incidence, the proctor said, “We do not want to file any case against traders; rather, we want to solve our problems through negotiation”.

The students of the DU clashed with the book traders at Nilkhetin New Market area in the city on Saturday afternoon.

Campus sources said a group of students fought with a shopkeeper over price.

At one stage, the students returned to the campus and grouped themselves and started for the book shops when the traders chased them.
