HC Contempt rule against culture secretary

Update : 13 Apr 2014, 01:24 PM

The High Court has issued a rule asking as to why the culture secretary and the director general of archaeology should not be punished for contempt of court for their failure to implement the verdict for protecting the historical Lalbagh Fort in Old Dhaka.

The HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal issued the rule following a contempt of court plea lodged by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.

On April 6, the bench had issued a contempt rule against independent lawmaker Haji Selim for interrupting the law enforcers in evicting illegal structures in and around the Lalbagh Fort to protect its beauty, nature and archaeological heritage in line with the High Court verdict of October 26, 2011.
