National flag hawker chopped, mugged

A national flag hawker was chopped and mugged while he was selling the same near Madam Mohanpara in the Jhenaidah town on Saturday night.

The victim was identified as Sabuj, 20, son of Aktaruzzaman, of Dakkhin Joynagar of Bhola.

Jhenaidah police station Officer-in-Charge Iqbal Bahar Chodhury told Dhaka Tribune that Sabuj was selling the national flags at Madan Mohan Mandir premises on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year.

A gang of youths took him near the temple about 10pm, looted his cash and mobile phones and started chopping him severely.

Later, the police rescued the hawker and rushed him to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital. He was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical state.

A case was filed with the police in this connection. The motive of the incident could not be known immediately, the police said.
