Mozena: Bangladesh achieves great success in agriculture

The United States Ambassador in Bangladesh Dan Mozena Saturday said Bangladesh has achieved great success in agriculture on its way to become self-reliant in food within the next ten years.

He was addressing a press conference at Parjatan Motel in the Capital to brief his experience on week-long visit to Pabna, Bogra, Joypurhat, Gaibandha, Rangpur and Lalmonirhat districts to see the US-assisted projects in action.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Janina Jaruzelski, who accompanied the US envoy during the visit, also addressed the press conference narrating the ongoing USAID-assisted development activities in the region, reports BSS.

"I saw many things are happening in these northern districts having enormous potentials in various sectors and I am more convinced now that Bangladesh is building the Tagore's Sonar Bangla," Mozena said.

Terming the districts he visited as food granary, Mozena said he saw "Vast rice and maize fields, ocean of watermelon, capital of banana, dairy, poultry, utilisation of high tech latest technologies by farmers and many indescribable successes in agriculture".

Mozena specially thanked Agriculture Minister Motia Chowdhury and local administrations, and above all, the farmers, for the revolutionary success Bangladesh has achieved in the agriculture and mentioned that the region has been exporting huge potato abroad.
