Kishoreganj-Dhaka bus strike called off

Update : 12 Apr 2014, 11:16 AM

Kishoreganj District Road Transport Owners’ Association has withdrawn the indefinite bus strike on Kishoreganj-Dhaka route.

“We have called off the strike on condition of holding a meeting with the Owners’ Association of Dhaka on April 16,” Kishoreganj District Road Transport Owners’ Association President Helal Uddin Manik said.

Buses started to ply on the route as soon as the strike was called off.

Earlier in the morning, the District Road Transport Owners’ Association called an indefinite strike protesting the sudden halt of buses from the Dhaka route.

“Two buses go to Dhaka’s Mirpur from Kishoreganj, one of which was seized by Owners’ Association from Dhaka a month ago,” said Helal Uddin.

“They even beat up the workers and snatched away their money. Over the feud, workers in Kishoreganj seized a bus from Dhaka which was later released by the Owners’ Association,” he said.

“However, today morning [Saturday] Owners’ Association from Dhaka suddenly stopped buses from all the routes of capital that connect to Kishoreganj, so we were forced to stop the buses from this end,” Helal added.
