Former parliament member Advocate Md Abdul Awal Mia died of cancer at his Maghbazar residence in the city on Friday evening.
He was 71.
Family sources said Awal had been suffering from liver cancer for a long time. He breathed his last at his Dilu Road residence at 7pm.
He was elected parliament member from Kushtia 4 (Kumarkhali-Khoksha) constituency as an Awami League candidate in the 1991-96 parliament.
He left behind two sons, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.
His first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Dilu Road Jame Masjid at 9:30am and the second janaza on the premises of Panti High School in Kumarkhali, Kushtia after Asr prayers on Saturday.
