Four killed in separate train accidents in city

At least four people, including a newborn baby, were killed in separate train accidents in different areas of the capital.

Police said a one-day-old boy had been found dead in 11no rail gate area of Khilgaon around 11:30am. 

Mohammad Jahidul Islam, assistant sub-inspector of Government Railway Police (GRP), said the baby was wrapped inside a blue-checked lungi.

He suspected that the baby might have been dumped by someone on the rail track in the early hours of yesterday and has subsequently been crushed under the wheels of a train.

The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue, he added. 

In a separate incident, the police recovered the body of an unidentified boy of about age 14 from Tejgaon rail station area around 1:30am.

Mohammad Rajib Hossain, sub-inspector of GRP, said the boy might have been killed in a train accident. The body was sent to the DMCH morgue. 

Quoting witnesses, the police said an unidentified young girl had committed suicide by jumping in front of a Dhaka-Narayanganj train in Chasara area around 2:15pm.

Mohammad Kuddus Fakir, assistant sub-inspector of the GRP, said the identity of the deceased remains unknown.

Following this series of unfortunate deaths, the body of an unidentified boy aged around 12 years was found on the tracks of a rail line in the Mohakhali Chairman Baria area around 11:45pm on Wednesday.

Separate general diaries were registered.
