Employees to go on work abstention

Update : 10 Apr 2014, 08:02 PM

The employees of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) yesterday announced a one-hour work abstention from tomorrow demanding immediate withdrawal of the upgrading decision of (CMCH) into university.

Several hundred employees of CMCH, under the banner of CMCH Karmakorta-Karmochari Oikya Parishad, called the programme against the upgrading decision at a protest rally held in the hospital premises.

They held the rally from 11am to 12:30pm where Romena Akhter, president of CMCH Karmakorta-Karmochari Oikya Parishad, presided over the programmes.

Speakers said if CMCH were upgraded into university it would be run by an autonomous body which would affect about five crore people in this region.  As a result, those who are dependent on the hospital will be deprived of getting treatment at a low expense due to increase of different fees.

“We also want a medical university but it should be established in another place,” they added.  Ratan Ali Mia, member secretary, Rukhma Chowdhury, joint secretary of the organisation, and Ratan Kumar Nath, general secretary of Diploma Nurse Association, spoke among others.
