3 policemen shot in Teknaf ‘gunfight’

Four, including three policemen, have been shot during a “gunfight with Yaba traders” in Teknaf upazila, Cox’s Bazar. Arms and ammo have been seized.

The injured Sub Inspector Rajesh Barua, 30, Constables Nihir Chandra, 35, Habibur Rahman, 38, and Yaba trader Ramzan ali are attending treatments.

Police drove into Keruntali area on a tip-off regarding Yaba trade around 4:30am on Thursday, Teknaf police Officer-in-Charge Ranjit Kumar Barua said.

“The Yaba traders fired 20 rounds on the law enforcers. Police were compelled to fire back 12 rounds. At one point the Yaba traders fled scene.”

“Three policemen and a Yaba trader have been shot,” he said.

“Injured Ramzan Ali was nabbed with 1,000 pieces of Yaba, one light machine gun and two rounds of cartridges. He is an accused of several narcotics-related cases.”

However, a case was yet to be lodged regarding this matter until the time of filing this report.
