Scarlett Johansson's superpowers in Lucy

Update : 05 Apr 2014, 06:40 PM

People have seen her kick aliens in the rear as the Black Widow in the movie Avengers. Now, Scarlett Johansson gets to become her own hero in Lucy and if the film's new trailer is to be believed, she gets her own super powers as well, the Los Angeles Times reported.

With Lucy, Scarlett Johansson moves on from being mortal special agent Natasha Romanoff and turns into the titular lead with superpowers based on her unlocked mental capabilities.

The trailer of the movie also features Johansson working with "God" himself, although this time, Morgan Freeman is the mere mortal who is helping the super-powered lady in uncovering more of her capabilities with his study into the human mind.

The trailer reveals the basic premise of the film, which seems to be the usual superhero trope: An unforeseen incident happens to a "normal" person and average citizen, which unlocks or gives her superpowers. She decides to get rid of them at first, but she eventually embraces them and goes on a rampage.

Interestingly, the event that gave Lucy her powers is revealed by the trailer as not so standard after all, what with the involvement of drugs and gansgters.

After spending a night having fun and partying, she wakes up with cut open abdomen, gets abducted, and finds out that she has been implanted with drugs to function as a drug smuggling mule. When she is captured and beaten, the packs of drugs inside Lucy's stomach ruptures, causing their contents to be absorbed into her body.

This starts unlocking parts of her mind for use, which goes in hand with the urban myth of humans only using 10% of their brains, something the film is heavily based on.
