Update : 05 Apr 2014, 06:30 PM

Celebrated folk bands and soloists will perform in a five day long festival titled Shatkahon Rongeela Mela, an initiative by Jatra - A Journey into Craft, which will begin on April 10.

The programme aims to highlight the beauty of the seven regions of Bangladesh by focusing on the stories, flowers and crafts of each.  This is Jatra’s first chapter of a 7 part story which will be demonstrated through the festival. The show will continue from April 10 to 14, 10am to 8pm at Jatra’s Dhanmandi Outletin road 27.

The festival is featuring performances by Shayan, Bahok (Anusheh Anadil, Palki, Pandu, Nazrul, Shafi Mondol), Joler Gaan, Kangalini Sufia and Rob Fakir.

The programme will also highlight traditional food, local crafts, products of our cottage industry and performances by Shadhona's Dance Company.

The proprietor of Jatra and also a famous folk singer Anusheh Anadil said: “We have big plans related to this. We have been going all over the country, documenting and learning more about all our traditional crafts. We are also having a lot of workshops this last year on plants, birds and the culture of Bangladesh. This is 1st chapter of the Mela. When we launch chapter 7, we plan to release the travel documentary and a book on all our experiences. The experience so far has been very humbling and revealing positively and negatively. Just as we discovered amazing master craft women and men and experienced some amazing cultural and artistic forms, we also learnt about how our excessive consumerism is affecting the countries’ indigenous arts, animals and natural resources.”
