Nasim: New law for establishing medical colleges

This Saturday, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mohammad Nasim, has said the government will enact a new law for the establishment of medical colleges.

"No more medical colleges will be given approval without satisfying all the requirements of an ideal medical college," he said.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a dialogue programme titled 'Bangladesh: Quality Challenges in Medical Education' at capital’s LGED auditorium, reports BSS.

Nasim requested private medical college authority not to lower the enrolment score for the applicants.

He said: "A student must have minimum 120 scores out of 200 to enroll in any medical college.”

He said that the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) will be strengthened to make the doctors more accountable.

He said, "Two more laws will be enacted, -- one for the safety of doctors and other one for the protection of the patients."

BMDC President Prof ASM Ahmed Amin, Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta, PPRC Executive Chairman Hossain Zillur Rahman also spoke among others.
