‘Moncho rally not allowed fearing clash’

Update : 05 Apr 2014, 10:04 AM

Police did not let the activists of Gonojagoron Moncho hold rally at capital’s Shahbagh fearing clash.

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said this on Saturday.

The junior minister said: “As there had been difference in opinion in the activists of Gonojagoron, police did not let them hold rally at Shahbagh in a bid to avoid violence.”

However, he said police will take action against the attackers after investigating into the incident.

Police have already arrested the accused of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader killing at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) campus, the minister informed.

On Friday afternoon, some around 20 activists of Gonojagoron Moncho were injured in a police action as it and another group named Muktijuddha Sangsad Sontan Command tried to hold rallies at the capital’s Shahbagh.

Police resorted to charging batons and detained Moncho men, including Badhon, Farid, Sohag, Dhiman, Tito and Joy, and activists of the Muktijuddha Sangsad Sontan Command, including its President Mehedi Hasan Prince.

Meanwhile, both Gonojagoron Moncho and Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command filed separate cases with Shahbagh police station early yesterday against each other for the attack on Thursday night.

The cases were filed following their failures to reach any understanding at a meeting held at Shahbagh police station in the presence of some policemen.

Sub-Inspector Krishna Chandra Das of Shahbagh police station said a case was filed by Gonojagoron Moncho activist Nabendra Saha Joy accusing several leaders and activists of Jubo League, Chhatra League and Muktijoddha Sangsad Sontan Command.

The accused in the case include Jubo League leader Nasim Al Mamun alias Rupak, Chhatra League leaders Sheikh Asman, Shishir, Abir and Shahin, and Muktijuddha Sontan Command leaders Mehedi Hasan Prince, Babul, Misbah and some other unidentified people.

Mehedi Hasan Prince, president of the Muktijuddha Sontan Command, also filed a case, accusing some leaders of Gonojagoron Moncho, including its spokesperson Imran H Sarkar, Nabendra Saha Joy and Badhon.
