Update : 04 Apr 2014, 07:51 PM

Multi storied residential buildings would be built on abandoned government lands in Gulshan, Banani and Dhanmondi areas of the capital, Housing Minister Mosharrof Hossain said yesterday.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of REHAB Fair 2014 organised by the Real Estate and Housing Association (REHAB) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, the minister made the comment.

Mentioning that there was an acute housing crisis for the government officials and that only 7% government officials were getting housing facilities, the minister said the buildings would be used as quarters for government officials. These buildings would be built by private construction firms under supervision of the Public Works Ministry, he added.

Meanwhile, residential buildings would also be built in other areas of the capital under public-private partnership to sell flats among general citizens, Mosharrof said. Besides planned housings were also being built across the country for ensuring citizens’ rights, he added.

Such housings would be built in every upazilas of the country so that people did not feel necessary to come to the capital to enjoy their rights as a citizen, the minister said, and added that at present a total of 46 housing projects were under process across the country.

Saying that the government was alert about the problems of housing business, Mosharrof informed that the committee of the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) had been reorganised. Alongside the government, the REHAB should come forward in solving the housing crisis of the people, the housing minister said.
