At least 25 people, including seven policemen, have been injured in a clash between transport workers and law enforcers for boarding on bus without ticket at Police Line area in Kishoreganj on Friday morning.

Kishoreganj Road Transport Corporation Secretary Alamgir Murad said: “Some police members beat up the helper of a passenger bus when he prevented them from boarding on it without tickets.

They also beat District Labour Union Organising Secretary Kaiyum when he went to rescue the helper,” he added.

He also demanded quick action from the authorities in this connection and warned of tougher movement.

BRTC General Secretary Osman Ali said bus movement has been suspended on Dhaka-Kishoreganj route following the incident.

Meanwhile, the workers suspended bus movement in Gaital inter-district bus stand area around 11am.

The workers claimed that the law enforcers vandalised some 10 buses in the area.

Kishoreganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek said: “Police fired rubber bullets and charged batons to disperse the workers.” The situation is now under control now, he added.

Police also detained a bus driver named Hira from the spot.
