A better connectivity and cooperation among South and South East Asian countries is needed to fulfill common goal of economic prosperity of the region.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this when non-resident High Commissioner of Singapore Chan Heng Wing made a courtesy call on her at her Tejgaon office in the capital on Thursday, reports BSS.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM's special assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil said Hasina laid importance on better connectivity and cooperation among the South and South East Asian countries.
She also laid importance on strengthening bilateral trade and business between Bangladesh and Singapore.
The prime minister said, Bangladesh, an agriculture-based economy, has given importance to development of agro-processing industries under private sector.
She said, Bangladesh has already attached importance to agricultural research aimed at diversification of crops and improve export of agri-products.
Chan Heng said Bangladesh can be benefitted from the experience of Singapore in making strong foundation of her economy.
In this regard, he said, a team of private sector entrepreneurs would visit Singapore soon to have practical experience on Singapore's economic growth. Their visit would immensely help propelling Bangladesh's industrial growth, he hoped.
Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin and PM's Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder were present, among others, on the occasion.
Chan Heng Wing conveyed felicitation of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Sheikh Hasina for her victory in the last general election and assuming the office of the Prime Minister for second successive term.
