A total of 41 children were killed in political violence last year, says a report of Manusher Jonno Foundation.
According to the report, 156 children became the victims of political unrest in 2013. Of them, 41 were killed and 107 were critically injured.
The report titled “The situation of children in Bangladesh in 2013: From newspaper pages” was prepared based on the newspaper reports of the country.
Abdullah al Mamun, coordinator of children related programme of the human rights based organisation, presented the report at the National Press Club on Thursday morning.
It stated that 1104 children were killed in various accidents, 502 were drowned, 266 were killed in road crashes and 48 were electrocuted.
Some 267 children were raped in 2013. Of them, 12 were killed and 239 sustained serious injuries.
Quoting newspaper sources, the report said the number of incidences of children abduction had increased in 2013 compared to that of 2012.
In 2013, 90 children were abducted. Of them two were killed.
