Four members of a family have been burnt to death in a fire at a thatch house in Adunagar area under Lohagara upazila of Chittagong district early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahmin, his wife Nasima, 33, their daughters Lucky, 12 and Reshmi, 8.
Lohagara police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahjahan confirmed about the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.
He said: “Rahim had smoking habit. We are estimating that the fire originated from burning cigarette around 3:30am.”
“Rahim might have got up to smoke while the other family members were sleeping. He may have mistakenly left the burning cigarette near the house that lead to the fire,” he added.
