A Rajshahi court has placed Abdus Salam alias Sudipto Salam, former joint secretary of the Rajshahi University Chhatra League unit, on a two-day remand in a case filed for brandishing fire to the demonstrating general students of the university on February 2.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sharmin Akhter passed the order on Wednesday afternoon, rejecting his bail plea.
Earlier on Monday, a team of Detective Branch (DB) from the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police arrested Sudipto along with BCL RU unit organising secretary Akhtarul Islam Ashif for stabbing and beating up two general students on Sunday at Bangabandhu Hall on the campus.
Sudipto was shown brandishing fire to the general students who were demonstrating on the RU campus in protest against the hiked fees and evening masters’ courses on February 2.
He was arrested with the possession of a bullet-loaded firearm, police said.
Sudipto earlier also arrested with a sex worker in Rajshahi city and another time arrested for assaulting police man at Shah Makhdum Hall of RU.
About six cases were filed against him at several police stations in Rajshai city, police sources said.
At last instance, on Sunday evening, he along with Ashif stabbed and beat up with hammer and hockey sticks two general students at Bangabandhu hall of the university over extortion.
