Riaz won the hearts of the audience of Bangladesh with his sincere delivery of roles and realistic acting. He coveted the title of a prominent actor and made his Dhallywood debut in 1995 with the film Banglar Nayok. Working in Dhallywood kept him well occupied and the handsome actor was infrequent in the small-screen and therefore, he decided to be close with his fans by getting back to his old ways and work in small-screen once again. In an interview Riaz talked about his new ventures:
What is the reason behind your return to the small-screen?
It is a fact that I took a break from Dhallywood. I wasn’t regular on TV either. Recently, director Mohon has offered me two scripts to act on. I liked the script and now I am ready to work for it. I have finished shooting for telefilms and a drama in Cox’s Bazaar.
How do you feel about working on both drama and telefilm?
I can state with confidence that the audience will love my work. I worked on two telefilms and one drama. The telefilms include Bhalobasha Ek Phota Jol and Gangchiler Thikaana where I am pairing up with Rumana. Mohon is very easy to work with and he gives his best while working. As far I recall, my first act on a TV drama was with Mohon in Daruchini Dwiper Golpo.
Tell us about your work in TV dramas.
I remember one of my more significant acting in a docudrama based on the biography of Freedom fighter Matiur Rahman. Since I was with the air force, the drama was close to my heart. It was made over a decade ago and I received positive response from the audience.
What are the disadvantages in today’s Dhallywood?
Well, there are no significant issues in Dhallywood. When we were working we had hindrance, but we were able to present some good films to our audiences. Although there were no multiplex cinema halls, but still the audience loved to watch movies on the big screens. My point is that, the increasing number of theatre hall is only confined within the capital and that should not be the case. Expansion of movie theatres will draw more audience in. Besides, there should be variation in terms of filmmaking.
What is your opinion on current films?
There is a lack of technological development in our productions. Dhallywood cannot depend only three movies a year. For example, we cannot cherish the entire year with the success of Agnee. Dhallywood should produce more good stories. Picking up the pace with the advancement of technology should be the way to go.
In general it is said that Bangladeshis become fans of foreign channels, what is you take on the issue?
In this globalisation era, we are all here to develop ourselves. Hollywood does not produce good movies all the time, but there is an attempt which is noticeable. Our film industry should also make attempts to produce good movies and this generation should give us a hand on the development of Dhallywood.
