BCL infighting injures 4 at Dhaka College

Four people sustained bullet wounds in an infighting between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League over the feud of establishing supremacy in the capital’s Dhaka College area on Monday night.

The injured are Jasim, 24, Rony, 20, Chanchal, 24, and Zahid. They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Following the clash, police conducted a massive search at the dormitories of the Dhaka College and detained some 20 youths. They also recovered several sharp weapons in the raid.

Witnesses said around one hundred of BCL activisms from Rinku group and Sohel group locked into clash that lasted from 11:30pm to 1am.

Meanwhile, they exchanged gunshots, exploded bombs and hurled brick chips during the clash.

Police sources said they locked into the clash following the formation of new committee of the college’s BCL and control of power.

Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Police Division Maruf Hossain Sarder confirmed about the clash.

“On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control,” said the DC.

Later, additional forces were deployed at the campus.

He added the detainees were taken to the office of the detective branch of police for interrogation.

Abu Yusuf, assistant commissioner of police at the Media Centre of the DMP, said the youths were detained for not having identity cards.

“Many of them were the students of Dhaka College. After verification, decision will be taken on their arrest,” he said.
