The voting at a polling centre in Chittagong has been halted when the supporters of Awami League backed candidate and rebel Awami League candidate exchanged fire at each other on Monday.
The supporters of Awami League-backed candidate Mohammad Shahjahan and Awami League rebel candidate Mizaur Rahman Mizan exchanged fire at Abeda Foyez High School centre under Shondi upazila in the morning forcing the polling officials to halt voting.
Presiding Officer Nuruzzaman said: “The voting has been halted for the time being at the polling centre due to the incident.”
He said: “We have stopped the voting so that the voters do not panic.”
