Two MPs-elect of the ruling Awami League have received clearances from their charges for violation of the electoral code of conduct in the 10th parliamentary election.
The Election Commission delivered the verdict on Sunday in this regard and cleared Jessore 1 constituency MP Sheikh Afil Uddin and Jessore 2 MP Monirul Islam from the allegation of violating the electoral code of conduct as the two sought apology from the EC during the hearing.
The commission has been asked to publish the gazette nonfiction on the verdict of the two MPs immediately, senior assistant secretary Mizanur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
On January 7, the EC issued a show cause notice to Afil and Monirul, asking them why their candidature should not be cancelled for violating the electoral code of conduct.
On January 1, an agent of independent candidate Rafiqul Islam brought the allegation against the duo. The electoral inquiry committee that submitted its probe report to the commission on January 3 found that the two violated the code of conduct.
