An alleged extortionist has killed a China expatriate at Charparbati village in Companiganj upazila of Noakhali early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Zahidul Islam Maruf, 42.
Sajedur Rahman Sajid, officer-in-charge of Companiganj police station has confirmed about the death incident.
Yasin stabbed Maruf with sharp weapons and later shot him in front of his house around 1:00am, leaving him dead on the spot, the OC said.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Yasin, a listed criminal of the area, had been demanding extortion from Maruf who came home from China two months back.
Police recovered four firearms and some weapon making tools from Yasin’s residence but he managed to flee the scene.
Enraged by the incident, locals torched the house of Yasin.
