Sweet! Cupcake ATM Opens in Manhattan

Update : 29 Mar 2014, 12:26 PM

A new Cupcake ATM by Sprinkles Cupcakes’ opened this week, with visitors saying that the desserts have been worth the wait.

The company called Sprinkles Cupcakes’ opened a pink 24-hour Cupcake ATM on Tuesday outside its Lexington Avenue location, reports The Wall Street Journal.

People can now swipe their credit cards and choose from a variety of flavours, vanilla to banana chocolate, delivered in pink boxes through a window.

The prices of the cupcakes are $4.25 per piece, with a limit of four cupcakes per person and can also be purchased in the store when the store is open.

Shenel Wright, 21, goes to Hunter College nearby and is a regular at Sprinkles. She said the best part of the ATM was that it would allow her to get cupcakes after-hours.

“It was fun, it’s really easy to use,” she said. “It doesn’t get better than a cupcake ATM.”

Starr Zuckerman, like many people, filmed the moment the window opened and her boxed cupcake, a sugar-free version, was revealed.

“I’m documenting it so I can send it to three grown-up kids and maybe a few grandkids too,” she said.

Yudai Sato, 28, visiting New York City from Tokyo, said cupcakes were not very popular in his home city.

“I find them really sweet, maybe too sweet,” he said.

While he and Misaki Konno, 20, had bought cupcakes at the ATM, they planned to eat them inside the Sprinkles shop because it was cold outside.

CJ Harvey, 19, ordered four cupcakes at the machine after waiting about 20 minutes. She and her cousin, Cooper Magoon, 22, watched as a video gave a behind-the-scenes view of a robot arm delivering their boxed cupcakes to the window.

“This is high-tech,” Harvey said.

Taking a bite of a banana-chocolate cupcake, she declared it the best she’d ever had in her life.

“I’m never eating another food group again,” she said.
